Vedic Temple Seattle celebrated Makara Sankranthi with Surya puja and Ayyappa puja on 13,14-Jan-2009.
On the day of Sankrathi, sun enters into kumbha raasi and uttarayana time starts. It is very auspicious.
In Sabarimalai, devotees of Maha Shashta ( Lord Ayyappa) celebrate darshan of "Ayyappa Jyothi" on this day.
Surya puja was performed on 13-Jan and Lord Ayyappa bhajans, abhishekam and puja was performed on 14-Jan.
